On our most recent safari, we witnessed what we like to call a lion rescue.
A lion which was eating a buffalo was found to have a snare around it's neck. The park vet came to try to help and remove the snare. She darted the lion and tried to approach to remove the snare and found he was not quite asleep.
Here it is with her pliers as he work up while she approached him.
So, she hit it with a second dart and waited for it to fall completely asleep.
Then she could approach and below is the snare that was removed.
But, with hyenas and vultures now eating his buffalo, it was not safe to leave him there to wake up. So they loaded him into their truck to move him to a safer place to wake up. But, he was too heavy, so they asked for some help to lift him up!
The white guy in the navy shirt is our friend who jumped in to help!
And, the hyenas and vultures were left to enjoy the buffalo.
